Condolence & Memory Journal

So many wonderful memories come flooding back from 1975. Mr. Showalter was one of my favorite teachers at Edinburgh High School. I had a choir class in the auto shop hallway, and would see him daily. The old saying, you don't always remember what someone said, but rather how they made you feel, rings true for Mr. Showalter. He was a very caring man, genuinely concerned for every student. He never failed to have a smile on his face, or a kind remark that would just make your day. My heartfelt sympathy to your family.

Your father Bill (Doc) made a huge impact on my life. He was a father figure to me and many others in Edinburgh Auto Shop. He got the most from all of his students and changed many kids who were on the wrong path and turned their lives around - many of which other teachers had given up on. While he was at Edinburgh they won many state and national Trouble Shooting Contests all due to Doc's outstanding teaching abilities. Many students retired from or are currently working at Cummins Engine Company. I have several great memories of Doc. In class one day in 1978, he guaranteed me that we would beat Whiteland in basketball. I said, we haven't beat them in 25 years. He told me he had a bet with his son that we would beat them and we won the game. Although I won't be able to attend today....I will be thinking of Doc and his family...our prayers are with you. I love Doc Showalter - Tommy Johnson ('78 Plymouth Trouble Shooter)
