Edmund "Ed" Burns of Indianapolis passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019. He was 76 years old. Ed was born in New Haven, Connecticut on July 7, 1943 to the late Robert and Catherine (Slattery) Burns. He married the love of his life, Judith (Gard) Burns in 1966, and have been happily married for 53 years. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam era, and was a weapons expert as well as a drill instructor. Ed went on to become a heavy equipment mechanic for the city of Indianapolis retiring in 2001 after 28 years of service. He was an avid motorcycle rider traveling the United States with his wife, Judith. Ed also loved to fish and camp with his many friends, and in his younger years he was a diving champion. In addition to his parents, Ed is preceded in death by his son James "JD" Burns, and brothers Billy Burns and Richard Mails. He is survived by his wife, Judith Burns; son, John M. Burns; daughter, Suzanne Burns (life partner Michael Gomez); daughter in law Carolyn M. Burns; brothers, Kenneth and David Mails; sister Catherine Bebee; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Services for Mr. Ed Burns are Sunday, November 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory-Franklin Township Chapel, 5950 E. Thompson Rd., Indianapolis 46237 with visitation from 12:00 noon until time of service. Military honors will be presented by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Honor Guard and will take place at the funeral home.
