Leota (Wright) Sewell O'Bannon, 99, passed away November 6, 2019 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Leota was born along with her identical twin sister, Leola, in Hamilton County on April 25, 1920 to Warren C. and Estel Ruey (Kenton) Wright. She was a Pendleton resident for 16 years, before moving to Mohawk with her niece in November of 2018.
She was a 1939 graduate of Westland High School and a member of Pendleton Baptist Church. In their youth Leota performed with her twin sister Leola as the "Girls of the Golden West." She served as the Corresponding Secretary for the Reverend John Corbly Association for 34 years. We all believed she was born with a pad of paper and an ink pen in her hand, she wrote so many letters. Leota was very musical, she played the violin, guitar, and the organ. She was the organist for the churches she attended throughout her lifetime. She loved to read the bible, reading it thru three times. She also like to read the many books her parents had, she liked to crochet, work word searches, but music was her passion.
She married Harold K. Sewell on June 16, 1940 at Mt. Lebanon Church, south of Greenfield, he preceded her in death on March 4, 1986. She moved to Shelbyville and there met Raymond O'Bannon, they were married on July 22, 1988. He preceded her in death on June 3, 2003. She then moved to Pendleton to be with her twin Leola Murphy and husband Ray, there she resided until moving to Mohawk.
Survivors include nieces Linda Shull of Mohawk, Janet (husband, Craig) Tunget of Pendleton, Jana (husband, John) Savage of Beech Grove, Cindy Page and Mandy (husband, Dick) Paul of Florida, Patricia Elsbury of North Carolina. Nephews Tim (wife, Barbara) Justus of Tennessee, Warren (wife, Connie) Wright of Shelbyville, Step daughter Darlene Mount of Shelbyville. Several Great nieces and nephews and her Pendleton Baptist church family who she loved dearly.
Leota was preceded in death by her two husbands mentioned above, her parents, Warren C. and Estel Ruey (Kenton) Wright, brother Corbly Wright, and her three sisters, Leola Murphy, Anna May Bouch, and Leata Ruth Wright, a nephew, James Murphy, great nephew Neal Shull, and Step Daughter Phyliss Wright.
A visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m., Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Lahm Chapel, 211 E. State St., Pendleton, Indiana 46064 with a graveside service immediately following at Park Cemetery, 621 S. State St., Greenfield, Indiana 46140.

Great Aunt Leota was always a hoot, her and Grandma always tried to fool us kids on which one they were. We will miss her greatly. We will see her in eternity one day.

Mrs. O'Bannon was a wonderful Christian lady. It was my privilege to be her pastor in Seymour for several years. She was such a blessing to our church and to me. We'll see her again soon in Heaven. Pastor Martin Jones
