Tribute & Message From The Family

Donald W. "Don" Burgett passed away on Saturday, April 18, 2020, at the age of 87. He was born January 5, 1933 in Indianapolis to the late Cecil A. and Florence R. Burgett, one of six children. A long time resident of Indianapolis, Don graduated from Arsenal Technical High School in 1951 and went on to serve in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955. He joined St. John Lutheran Church in 1961 where he attended regularly with his wife and children. He was employed as a millwright at Navistar for 30 years before retiring in 1998. A master carpenter, Don enjoyed remodeling his long-time home and helping everyone who requested his assistance. He cherished riding his Honda Helix scooter with his wife and attending Pacers games with her as well. Spending quality time with family and friends was very important to him. Don was described as a "good man" by all who knew him. Don was preceded in death by his grandson, Brandon McIlquham. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Melba M. (Tiemeier) Burgett, and his children: Ricky (Susan) Burgett, Randy (Sherrie) Burgett, Lori McIlquham Patterson, and Lisa (Brian) Perry. He is also survived by grandchildren: Shaun, Justin, Lance (Ashley), Andrew (Erin), Phillip (Alyssa), Rachel, Karly and Kayla, and great-grandchildren: Brennan, Mason, Shyanne, Skylar, Starlett, Laynie, Logan and Vanessa. The family wishes to thank the staff of Otterbein Senior Life Community in Franklin for their loving and compassionate care over the past two and a half years.
A visitation (utilizing social distancing) will be held Wednesday, April 22nd, from 10 A.M.-12 P.M. at St. John Lutheran Church, 6630 Southeastern Avenue, Indianapolis, followed by a funeral service for immediate family. Don will be buried in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood, IN. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Lutheran Church. Arrangements entrusted to Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory-Franklin Township Chapel.
