Tribute & Message From The Family

Lorraine Verna Marie (Ree) Yonts Mercer

went to be with the Lord on Friday, May 22, 2020 at 9:00 pm. She was born on December 29,1925 in McRoberts, Kentucky to Farris Yonts and Ada Sue Collins Yonts. She married David Mercer on October 12,1944. After having 3 children, Verna Sue, Cora Darlene, and David Wayne, they packed up with all their belongings and moved to Indianapolis. Marie graduated from Cosmetology in April,1958 and enjoyed welcoming people into her home salon for many, many years.

Preceding her in death were her Father - Farris Yonts, Mother - Ada Sue Collins Yonts, Brothers: William Curtis Yonts, Ralph Yonts, James Leslie Yonts, Clyde Yonts, Herbert D. Yonts and Eugene B. Yonts, Sister: Stella D. Pedigo, Husband - David Mercer, Daughters: Verna Sue Correa and Cora Darlene Mercer, Son: David W. Mercer, Great Grandchildren: Christopher Ault, Brandy Ault, Kayla Welcher and Reagan Wolfe.

Surviving family: Daughter in law Tina Mercer, Brothers: Harold Russel (Minerva) Yonts and Duane (Ann) Yonts, Sister: Ella Louise (Major) Sparks, Grandchildren: Alisa Welcher, Richard Correa, Natalie Wolfe and Jessica (Brent) Gray, Great Grandchildren: Mark Ault, Samantha Wolfe, Nathaniel Wolfe, Harrison Wolfe, Grayson Fletcher and Gavin Gray. Long time friend - Don Honnaker and a host of many nieces and nephews.

Marie will be missed greatly and has taught her family about life, love, and loss. Even though she was not herself near the end, her eyes would light up when she saw you, especially when she saw her Great Grandchildren. She loved children. When you went to visit, she would greet you with love and a smile & when leaving she would wave goodbye while she watched you drive away. At one time or another when younger, most of her brothers and sisters lived with her. She taught us all to be very giving, thoughtful, caring and to love unconditionally. She loved to cook large meals for her family and when not at home she traveled with Toby Tours and arranged travels all over the U.S., and abroad, with friends.

The family would like to thank Kristen from Paradigm for giving Marie and the family love, support, and caring during this period of our lives.

She was a member of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church for 37 years and a member of The Golden Shepherds. In lieu of flowers, please give memorial contributions to the church: Good Shepherd United Methodist Church - 2015 S. Arlington Avenue, Indianapolis, Indiana 46203

There will be private services for the family and entombment will be at Orchard Hill Cemetery in Wanamaker.
