Tribute & Message From The Family

Walter Burton – aka Mr. Burton, Walter, Uncle Walter, Red, Uncle Red, Burt, Burton, Red Pop, Pop Poppa, Pap-Paw, Papaw, Big Papaw, Dad, Daddy, Honey

Walter had many names; if you called him, he always answered. He was admired, respected and loved by so many people - - family, friends, neighbors and co-workers.

Walter was born in French Lick, Indiana on August 28, 1932 to Jim and "Ophie" Burton. He graduated from French Lick High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955. He worked as a machine repairman at Western Electric for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He was a "home grown" gardener, auto repair guy, carpenter and home repair guru. If there was a practical need, he would figure out how to do it, and get it done. He prided himself on being an excellent provider for his family. ALSO, he was an avid basketball fan.

Walter passed away at his home in Indianapolis on December 9th, 2020, in the company of his family, from the effects of a long-standing chronic illness. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Anna Marguerite (Rector) Burton; children Marguerite, Catherine, Edith, and Walter, Jr. (Maggie); eleven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, James H. Burton of Battle Creek, Michigan, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Ophia Burton of French Lick, Indiana; step mother, Lillian Harmon Burton of French Lick; parents-in-law John and Mary Rector of Kennard, Indiana; three sisters and one brother; several sisters and brothers-in law, and nephews.

Services will be private. Walter requested that contributions might be made in the name of his family, to the charity of YOUR choice.
