Tribute & Message From The Family

Edna May Stamper was born January 15, 1923 to William and Beatrice Hicks in Indianapolis and graduated from Manual High School. She met and married William H Stamper in 1943 and remained wildly in love for the next 64 years, until Bill's passing in 2006. Edna retired from Eli Lilly in 1980, and shortly thereafter moved to Lake Placid, Florida to enjoy retirement. She and Bill moved back to Indiana in 1999 to be closer to family, residing in Greenwood.

Edna was a life-long member of Southport Presbyterian Church and a member of the Oakland Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved many sports, especially IU basketball and IU football. She enjoyed knitting and was always sure that every family member and special friend had plenty of dishcloths. She was an enthusiastic golfer and played until she was 90...shooting a total of 4 holes in one!! Edna was an avid bridge player and left her love of family at the door when a competition was at hand. She passed her love of cards and general enthusiasm for life to her children and the generations that followed.

Edna's greatest legacy was not just what she did, but who she was. She loved the Lord with all her heart. She had the powerful gift of joy and the most positive outlook on life. Her ability to see the good in all people and situations was incomparable. Edna was truly the beacon of the family and everyone around her was drawn to her light. Her gifts uplifted and encouraged everyone fortunate to know her. The world has become a little less bright without her and she will forever be missed.

Edna is survived by two children, William M Stamper (Margee) and Susan Ellerbrook; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Wright (Matt), William R Stamper (Amy), Jeff Ellerbrook, Jayma and Ryan Stamper and Bryce Stamper (Staci). She enjoyed her 11 great grandchildren and her sister-in-law, Doodle (Mary Mae) Zinkan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, and siblings Erma Geddes, Viola Woodruff, Bill Hicks and George Hicks.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory-Greenwood Chapel.
