Obituary

Carrie Sue Reinking, 67, of Indianapolis passed away October 2, 2021. She was born August 20, 1954, in Beech Grove, Indiana to Harold and Rose Reinking. She was a graduate of Southport High School and went on to study at Butler University where she earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 1976 and a master's degree.

Following graduation, Carrie taught school for 3 years at the American Embassy in Kuwait and had the privilege of traveling to France, England and throughout the Middle East. Her experiences of the cultures and foods from her travels greatly enriched her life and were some of her most cherished memories. Early in her career, Carrie also taught at Central Catholic Schools. She then moved to Indianapolis Public Schools where she worked for over 25 years, spending time teaching, as a teacher monitor, as a Title 1 compliance interventionist and as a supplemental educational services facilitator. More recently she spent five years with Perry Township Schools where she was a computer lab assistant and ISTEP remediator.

Carrie was passionate about teaching and throughout her teaching career received many prestigious honors. She received the 2017 Humanitarian Awards Banquet Ambassador's Award while at Perry Township Schools. While with IPS she was a proud recipient of the IPL Golden Apple Award.

Carrie enjoyed knitting and quilting and loved communicating with people on Facebook and Twitter. Anyone who knew her though would say outside of the classroom her greatest passion was her love of dogs. For Carrie's extraordinary dedication to and love for dogs the Humane Society of Indianapolis appointed her to the Council of the Sixth Day Guardians in 1997. She had many dogs in her lifetime, spending her last few years at home with her golden retriever, Bella.

She is survived by her two sisters, Anna M. Williamson and Linda D. Huffman, her brother, Michael J. Reinking, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold H. Reinking and Rose B. Reinking, and her brother, David A. Reinking.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, October 8 at St. Barnabas Catholic Church, 8300 Rahke Rd. Indianapolis, 46217. Graveside services are private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Franciscan Hospice House (Southside Indianapolis, IN) or the Humane Society of Indianapolis. Final arrangements entrusted to Singleton and St. Pierre Funeral and Cremation Services.
