Obituary for Albert "Al" M. Coury, Jr.

July 31, 1951 - November 27, 2021
Wanamaker, Indiana | Age 70

Albert "Al" M. Coury, Jr., 70, passed away unexpectedly on November 27, 2021, in his hometown of Wanamaker, Indiana. He is survived by his companion Kate Morrison, his seven children; CC Henkel, Albert Coury III, Rita Coury, Heather Hoffman, Vanessa Coury, and Mica Coury, three stepchildren; Jeffrey Truran, Jennifer Villavaso, and Genevieve Morrison, and nine grandchildren; Taylor, Carter, and Hudson Henkel; Kate and Reid Hoffman; Jaxson Coury; Andrew Truran; and Juliana and Sophia Edmondson. He was preceded in death by his parents Albert M. Coury, Sr. and Yvonne Coury, and his infant son Elias.
Al was born in Mesa, Arizona. He graduated from University of San Diego in San Diego, CA where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. Al was a man of many passions and ideas, which contributed to his overall success as an entrepreneur.
Al became interested in racing pigeons at the age of 12, which ultimately led to the establishment of a premier, nationally respected, family of racing pigeons, which flew under the banner of Lazy AC Loft. His legacy among pigeon racers made a vital impact on the sport, garnering a true "feather in his cap".
Al held many titles throughout his life, but his favorite titles were father, friend, and mentor. Al treasured family time and enjoyed telling his many stories from his glory days, hoping to instill life lessons. Al had a passion for preparing food and immensely enjoyed watching others appreciate the bold flavors and southwestern taste of Arizona in his food. Family dinners were always one for the books. He was a true teacher, protector, and encourager. He wanted the best for others and was never shy of a one-line punchline, the true pun master.
A private viewing was held in Indianapolis, IN on Tuesday, November 30, 2021, prior to Al returning to Arizona for entombment in the family mausoleum at Mountain View Memory Gardens, 7900 E. Main St., Mesa, AZ, 85207. There will be a viewing for family and friends on Saturday, December 4, 2021, from 2:00pm-4:00pm, at Mountain View Funeral Home in Mesa, AZ. In lieu of flowers, family requests donations be made in his name to the charity of your choice. Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service and Crematory, Franklin Township Chapel, was entrusted with his arrangements.
