Charles F. Beckman, age 93, of Morgantown, passed away on Sunday night, at the Masonic Home in Franklin.
Charles was born on February 3, 1924 in Indianapolis to James Orville Beckman and Juanita Chambers Williams. After graduation, he went on to proudly serve his county in The United States Army during WWII. He fought in the Battle of the Bulge and was one of the first troops into Germany. He earned a Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts and a Combat Infantryman Badge. After he was discharged from the Army, Charles went on to serve his community as a Firefighter with the Indianapolis Fire Department for 37 years retiring as a Captain. On his days off from the IFD, Charles start Action Alarm Company providing security for the private sector as well as state agencies. On October 20, 1991, he married his wife Elizabeth, who survives. Charles was also a lifetime member of the VFW #6978.
Survivors include his wife Elizabeth; one son, Gary Beckman of Jacksonville; one daughter, Danita D. Lyles of Indianapolis; one step-daughter, Elizabeth Ann Brown of Franklin; one grandson, Charles L. Beckman (Amy) of Jacksonville; two step-grandsons, Jason Brown (Kelle) of Trafalger and Nathan Brown (Sarah) of Carmel; two great-granddaughters, Chloe and Ava; and four step-great grandchildren, Libby, Anna, Mason and Merrick.
A visitation will be held Thursday, February 23, 2017, 10:00 am until time of the funeral service at 1:00 pm at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Services and Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 West Main St, Greenwood. Burial and full military honors will immediately follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Reverend Douglas Vogel will officiate the funeral and the burial service.
