Doris was born on November 25, 1933 to John and Rena (Wilson) LaJennesse in Mitchell, South Dakota. Raised in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, Doris attended Olivet Nazarene College then moved to Indianapolis, Indiana.

While working at Best Foods, she met and wed John Richard Gibson. The couple had two daughters, Mary Dorene (Gibson) Fox, and Grace Eileen (Gibson) George. John passed in November 1970.

It was then that Doris went to work for Indiana Central College, (now UIndy), where she was the administrative assistant in the athletic department.

On Memorial Day, 1974, Doris met Philip Edward Fowler. They soon fell in love and married on March 8, 1975. Philip had three sons from his previous marriage, Philip Lee, Mark Alan, and Keith Aaron, who became family to Doris and her daughters.

Doris worked at the college until June 30th, 1999, after which she enjoyed her many hobbies, activities, and her family during her years of retirement.

Doris was a member of the University Heights United Methodist Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed singing in the church choir and her beloved Ad-A-Link Sunday school class. She served on many committees and held various offices in the church over the years, along with her service to the United Methodist Women.

Doris was an active member of the Greenwood Order of the Eastern Star, where she most recently served as the Treasurer. She was a State Deputy and a Grand Representative, and spent many happy hours traveling with members of the order to different cities and states.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents John and Rena LaJennesse, her brother Merle LaJennesee, and son Keith Aaron Fowler.

Survivors include husband Philip, daughters Mary and Grace (Todd Barnes), sons Philip & Mark (Annette), along with 22 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and her brother Dale LaJennesse. She will be greatly and forever missed by all who knew her.

Open visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15th at the University Heights United Methodist Church at 4002 Otterbein Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46227.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to the Better Indy Babies Pantry, (BIBS), in care of University Heights United Methodist Church, where Doris was a volunteer, helping less fortunate mothers in our community care for their babies.
