November 1, 1933 - February 5, 2017
Greenwood, Indiana | Age 83
Ethel Katz Konchinsky, daughter of Benjamin and Lillian Katz, was born on November 1, 1933, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She attended the public schools of the city of Philadelphia and spent much of her early life in the city. After graduating high school, Ethel worked at D and E Cutright Drugstore in Philadelphia from 1950 to 1962.
She was united in matrimony to Howard "Hesh" Konchinsky in 1963, with whom she had a blended family of four children. The family relocated a few times before finding their Hoosier home in 1966. Howard preceded her in death in February of 2005.
Ethel was an incredibly active woman, whether it be bicycling around her Greenwood home or bowling with her husband in a local league. For nine years, she worked at Reliable Drugs in Greenwood (formerly Haag and People's), and from 2000 to 2016, she worked for Regal Cinema in Greenwood, where she was recognized for her excellent work as Employee of the Month innumerable times. Ethel had an undeniably unique sense of fashion; a talent at crocheting and knitting, she was always embellishing her clothing and creating one-of-a-kind pieces to accent her wardrobe. She was a fan of Shirley Temple as they were the same age. Ethel's hobbies included extreme couponing, feeding the neighborhood dogs and birds, and baking; everyone will always remember her delicious pizzas, strawberry cakes, latkes, and challah bread.
Ethel's life will be marked by her generosity and her love of friends and family. A beloved mother, daughter, aunt, wife, and grandmother, she greatly enjoyed social gatherings and attending events in which her family participated, and she was always willing to lend a helping hand to her friends who were unable to travel. She was greatly admired by her coworkers and deeply appreciated by her family for her unending sacrifices. Ethel could light up the room with her warm, effusive personality and her delightful sense of humor. She departed this life Sunday, February 5, 2017, at her Greenwood home.
Her life will be forever treasured in the lives of her children: Pamela Konchinsky, Karen Konchinsky, and Allen Konchinsky; her grandchildren: Lillianna and Rachel Konchinsky-Pate and Angie and Andy Konchinsky; her sister: Louise Levin; her nieces: Debra Cohen, Donna Manus, and Lisa Pestcoe; and her grandnieces and grandnephews: Philip and Royce Cohen and Bonnie and Josh Manus.
There will be a private family burial service in Marion, IN. Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life gathering Sunday, February 12, at 1:00 p.m. at Ethel's home, 458 Sayre Dr. in Greenwood. Arrangements are through Wilson St. Pierre, Greenwood.
