Gary B. McKenzie

80, died unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep September 14, 2021, at his home in Greenwood, Indiana. He was born December 23, 1940, in Vevay, Indiana, the son of Francis C. McKenzie and Edna B. (Aldred), McKenzie.

Gary graduated from George Washington High School, Class of 1960. While in High School, Gary worked for Marsh Supermarkets. Following graduation, Gary married is grade-school sweetheart, Jeanetta McCammon. He and Jeanetta were married January 14, 1961. They built their forever home in Greenwood, Indiana in 1963 when Marsh Supermarkets promoted him to Producer Manager of the Greenwood store. After 7 years with Marsh, Gary joined Grinnell Fire Protection and Local Union 669 in 1966 and spent the next 30 years as a Sprinkler Fitter until his retirement in 1996 at age 55. After his retirement, he and Jeanetta lived their passion of traveling over the next 20+ years, in their RV all throughout the United States visiting 49 of the 50 states. When they weren't traveling, Gary enjoyed spending time in his garden, wood-working and time with his children and grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Ray. Surviving is his loving wife of 60 years, Jeanetta (McCammon) McKenzie, his daughters, Martha (McCammon) White and her husband Jerry of Indianapolis, Mary (McKenzie) Lewis and her husband Rod of Indianapolis, Pam (McKenzie) Kirk and her husband Allan of Greenwood and his son, Dennis McKenzie, and his wife Barbie of Fletcher, Oklahoma. Gary has 6 granddaughters, 4 grandsons and 12 great- grandchildren.

A service of remembrance will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 18th at Wilson St Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory Greenwood Chapel, 481 W Main Street, Greenwood, IN 46142 with a visitation from 11:00 am to service time. Interment will be at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Greenwood.

Memorial donations may be made to either the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
