Helen L. (Higgins) Searcy, 89, passed away at 2:30 in the morning on the second of May, at Rosegate in Indianapolis. She had been a resident of Franklin Twp. for 57 years.
Helen was born on September 25, 1927, in Brooksburg, IN at the home of her maternal grandparents, Allen and Fannie Jump, to her parents, the late Hubert and Margarite (Jump) Higgins. She married John M. Searcy on June 10, 1950, in Brooksburg, IN. He preceded her in death on May 30, 1993, after 42 loving years of marriage.
Helen was active in her church, New Bethel Baptist Church of Wanamaker, until her health began to fail her. While her family was growing up she was involved as a Cub Scout den mother, a Girl Scout badge leader, and Wanamaker Homemakers Club. She was actively involved in PTO at all 3 schools, and held several different officer positions. She served the Lord by being a deaconess, playing the piano for church services, being a Sunday School teacher and a VBS leader. Helen loved listening to gospel music, watching NASCAR, the Colts, and the Pacers. She enjoyed watching the birds come to her bird feeder at Rosegate.
Helen will be missed by her sons, John D. (Connie) of Indianapolis, Joseph A. (Sheryl) of Elwood, Philip M. (Monica) Searcy of Indianapolis, and her daughter, Judith M. (William) Hamilton of Brown County. She will also be remembered by her grandchildren, Adam (Adrienne) Searcy of Baltimore, Jennifer (Austin) Andrick of Indianapolis, Joshua (Kayla) Searcy of Elwood, Madelyn Searcy and Dylan Searcy both of Indianapolis; great-grandchildren Addisyn of Elwood, Noelle of Baltimore, and Aubrie of Elwood, many nieces and nephews, and by the families who knew her as "Aunt" Helen for 19 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother Charles H. Higgins.
Viewing will be at New Bethel Church in Wanamaker, IN on Saturday, May 6, 2017 from 9:30 until service time at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in the New Bethel Church Cemetery, 8936 Southeastern Ave, Wanamaker, IN. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 6500 Technology Center Dr #100 46278, Zionsville, IN 46077 or to the Edna Martin Christian Center 2605 E. 25th St. Indianapolis, IN 46218.
