Jerold W. Schemenaur

Our loving father and grandfather, Jerold Wayne Schemenaur, 74, passed away Tuesday, May 5, 2020, in Indianapolis, IN. Jerry was born on May 29, 1945 in Indianapolis to the late Dale and Erma (Walker) Schemenaur.

He married the late Linda Tague in 1966 and they enjoyed 30 wonderful years of marriage before her death in 1996. He later married LeAnne Briggs Weigand in 1998 and she preceded his death in 2016 after 18 happy years together.

Jerry was a kind, gentle, loyal man who loved and taught his children well. His family was his greatest joy, and he loved spending time with them whenever possible. He loved antiquing and traveling, most recently exploring the U.S. in his RV. He was a very talented handyman, able to fix anything, and enjoyed repairing antiques. He had a great sense of humor and was a wonderful storyteller. He will be missed by many.

Jerry was a retired Marion County (IN) Sheriff's Deputy, having served 32 years as a merit officer, mostly as a detective, and a 10 additional years as a civil deputy. He came out of retirement for nearly a year to solve cold cases. He graduated from the FBI National Academy and was a member of the FBI National Academy Associates. Jerry was also a member of the Pleasant Lodge #134, the Scottish Rite and Murat Shrine masonic organizations, and Fraternal Order of Police.

Jerry and Linda had two children, Jennifer Asay (Derek), Basking Ridge, NJ, and Brian (Stephanie), Indianapolis, who both survive. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Kate Weigand; six grandchildren: Regan, Brett, Elise and Drew Asay, Basking Ridge and Jared (deployed in Germany) and Olivia Schemenaur, Indianapolis; and his partner, Leane Whitaker.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a small private memorial service will be held to celebrate Jerry's life on May 9, 2020 with interment following at Forest Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be in memory of Jerry to the Indianapolis Scottish Rite (
