Joseph Paul Navarro, 81, passed away Monday, December 12, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was at home surrounded by his wife and children.
Joseph was born in Homestead, Pennsylvania on June 8, 1935. He was the beloved son of Mary Lopez. He is survived by his sisters, Irene Olsen and Margaret Filaccio, and his brother, Phillip Suarez. His brother, Julian Navarro, preceded him in death earlier this fall.
Joseph is survived by his devoted wife, Mary Ann Navarro, who he married on February 3, 1962, and their four children, Lisa Holt, Mary Rose Navarro, Joann Thilman and Joseph J. Navarro and six grandchildren.
Joseph graduated from East High School in Youngstown, Ohio in 1953. He proudly served his country as a member of the 38th Tactical Missile Wing of the U.S. Air Force from 1956 to 1960. He was based in Sembach, Germany and enjoyed extensive travel throughout Europe.
Joseph could accomplish anything he put his mind to. While raising his family in Girard, Ohio, he studied at Youngstown State University and graduated in 1972 with a Bachelor in Business Administration. He enjoyed a successful career as an entrepreneur and was president of Jonar Enterprises, which he incorporated in 1981. He built his company from a single desk in his bedroom into a business that would allow him to generously contribute to the well-being of his family, church and community. Most recently he actively volunteered with the Knights of Columbus and Project Healing Waters.
Joseph was an affectionate husband and father who took joy in experiencing life to its fullest. He enjoyed the fellowship of his friends, of which he had many. His humor and outgoing nature made him an easy person to love. He enjoyed golf, fly fishing, and rooting for the Ohio State Buckeye's football team.
A visitation and showing will be held on Sunday afternoon, December 18 from 4:00 to 7:00 pm at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory – Greenwood Chapel 481 West Main St, Greenwood, Indiana.
On Monday, December 19 there will be a calling at 11 am followed by a noon Mass at St. Francis and Clare Parish 5901 W. Olive Branch Rd Greenwood, Indiana. A reception at the church will follow the Mass.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to cancer research and has selected American Cancer Society.
