Obituary for Kathryn (Smiley) Linn

June 18, 1934 - February 27, 2018
Greenwood, Indiana | Age 83

Welcomed into the loving arms of her Savior, Kathryn "Katie" Linn died Tuesday, February 27, 2018. She was born June 18, 1934 in Columbus Kansas to parents Sidney and Irene Sisco. Growing up, Katie and her brother Sid loved going to parties and dances with their parents, aunts and uncles. With their many cousins they enjoyed the summer "stomps" on nearby Cherokee parcels.

Graduating from Joplin High School in Missouri, Katie was independent and fun loving, and especially enjoyed driving her 1948 Plymouth. Never one to care about fashionable clothing or hair styles, she'd brag on outfits sewn by her mother. After graduation she was employed by Bell Telephone.

In the mid-60's, Katie joined her parents, Sid and her nephew Rusty in Indianapolis. Working as a waitress and restaurant manager, she met Howard Smiley, and they were married in 1969. They built a small country home in Johnson County where they lived until the mid-80's when they decided to move to Phoenix Arizona because of Howard's health.

Katie returned to Indianapolis in 1998 to be near Sid and his family. Their devotion to one another was evident to all who knew them. She loved being included in family and friends' activities. Outgoing and generous, her remarkable talents for quilting and handwork led her to volunteer her talents to the local hospitals. Above all, Katie enjoyed making quilts for those special to her. It was during this time, however, that she faced serious health challenges. Still she remained cheerful and optimistic despite these setbacks.

Katie met Jim Linn while attending South Emerson Church of God, and they were loving companions for many years when he convinced Katie to marry him in July 2017. They shared several years of gratifying activities with their church family.

Besides her husband Jim, she is survived by her devoted brother Sidney Sisco (Betty). She is preceded in death by husband Howard Smiley and nephew Rusty Sisco. "Aunt Katie" will be truly missed by Beth Carter (Mike) and John Hughel (Eni) as well as by cherished friends and her church family.
A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 Friday, March 9th at the South Emerson Church of God, 3939 South Emerson, following visitation from 2 until 4pm.
