Obituary

On September 10, 2021, Leon "Pat" Patterson of Indianapolis, Indiana went home to be with our Lord. He was 97 years young. Pat was born September 2, 1924 on his family farm in Russell Springs, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife, Lenore R. Bruce Patterson. He also is survived by his son, Ron J. Patterson and his wife Jan. He also had a daughter who has passed, Bernetta Y. Patterson Francis (husband-David Francis). Pat also has one living stepson, Richard Bruce and his wife Chelle. He also has four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, four step grandchildren, and three step great-grandchildren.

Pat was a World War II veteran who served in the U.S. Army as a Sergeant, with Battery C 779th Anti-Aircraft Automatic Weapons Battalion from 1943 – 1946. His war time was spent in Okinawa. His decorations and citations were the American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon with one Bronze Star, and the Victory Medal.

Following the military, Pat was a Service Engineer Mechanic with Sears & Greenstreet's Station in Kankakee Illinois. He also attended the Eastridge Church of the Nazarene in Kankakee for 40 years before moving to Indiana to be near his children and grandchildren. Pat has been a member of The Point Church & Community Center for about 20 plus years.

Pat's hobbies were "GOLF, GOLF, GOLF". He loved the fellowship he had on the golf course with the dozens of friendships he developed over his lifetime.

Many of his loved ones and friends had lots to say about him. He was loved, very loving, caring, kind, thoughtful, and a wonderful friend. Some felt it was a privilege to know Pat and some felt as if he were their father. Pat always had a smile and a hug. All the children at every church he attended loved him because he was the "Double-Mint Gum and Peppermint Candy Man". They ran to him for their Sunday treat.

This man of great faith and love for his family, friends, and our Lord will truly be missed and will be resting for eternity in peace.

Services will be Monday, September 13th, at The Point Church & Community Center 2578 Donica Road, Greenwood, Indiana. Visitation is from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Services will begin at 1:00 pm. Following the service, all who would like, can meet at Vernon Cemetery, in Vernon, Indiana. We will begin a graveside service at 3:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, we would like to request memorial donations be made to The Point Church.
