Lowell E. Scotten, 92, passed away June 26, 2017 in his home in Brown County, Indiana. He was born in Indianapolis to the late Jesse and Martha Gabel Scotten. Lowell graduated from Washington High School where he was a star athlete in several sports. He served in the Navy in both World War II and Korea and retired from the U.S. Postal Service after many years of service. He maintained his interest in sports throughout his life and was a lifelong Chicago Bears fan. He was an avid golfer and prided himself on being able to shoot his age and on getting at least six holes-in-one after he retired. He was also an excellent dancer and he and his second wife Dorthela Merklin Smith had the trophies to prove it.
Lowell is survived by three children from his first marriage to Betty Jordan Dunkel: Marcia Rutz (Richard), Neil (Sally), and Kent (Jean), two grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, and a brother Leonard Scotten (Joyce). He is also survived by two daughters, Vicki Grimes and Peggy Smith, and a grandson, Guy Knaus, all of whom joined his family when he married Dorthela, as well as all the many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren that have been added to that side of his family over the years. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorthela, his brother Lloyd Scotten, and sisters Lois Morgan and Louise Hill.
Visitation will be 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 1 at Wilson St. Pierre Chapel, 481 West Main Street, Greenwood, Indiana. A memorial service will follow .
