Obituary for Terry L. Wright

May 25, 1944 - May 22, 2020
Indianapolis, Indiana | Age 75

Terry Lee Wright

75, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away on May 22, 2020. He was born in Richmond, Indiana, (May 25, 1944) to James Chester and Betty Laverne Wright. Terry collected distinctive badges of honor during his life: devoted Christian, Vietnam Veteran (1968-1969), husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, history teacher, and friend. Terry's sense of humor, storytelling, and ability to make history come alive made him a favorite teacher; he retired from Perry Township in 2007 after 36 years of teaching, then continued to teach history at Southport Presbyterian Christian Church for three more years. When former students speak of him, it is with reverence, fond memories, and thankfulness. When his family tells stories of him, there is a sparkle in their eyes and a smile on their faces from his escapades. On May 28, 2017, his wife described him as, "a great husband, unselfish father and grandpa, lover and anything [President] Lincoln and a man of God." Terry changed countless people's lives for the better and asked for nothing in return. He will be missed and yet we will feel his influences for generations to come.

He is survived by his beloved wife of more than 50 years, Carolann Wright, his brothers Stanley (Mandi) and Myron (Deanna) Wright and sister Lorrie (Brian) Sloan. Sons Rob (Cami) Wright, Thomas (Beth) Wright, and his daughter, Jill Wright, along with his grandsons Garrett and Mason Wright. Preceding him in death were his father, his mother, and his brother, Larry Wright.

Visitation will take place at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory, Greenwood Chapel, 481 W Main St. Greenwood, IN 46142 on Friday, May 29, 2020 from 10am-2pm. The service will take place at 2:00. Please consider the current health recommendations including social distancing and a separate pen to sign the guest book.
