Obituary

Virgil C. Mabrey, 72, of Pendleton, passed away November 17, 2018 at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis.

He was born August 1, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri and was a lifelong Pendleton resident.

Virgil was a 1964 graduate of Pendleton High School and received his bachelor's degree from Indiana State University.

He was a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of Pendleton First United Methodist Church.

Virgil retired from the concrete and construction industry following a career in sales management and was a past president of Indiana Ready Mixed Concrete Association. He had served as Clerk/Treasurer for the town of Pendleton and was a board member of the South Madison Community School Corporation for 12 years. Virgil loved teaching, coaching and working with kids and was a permanent substitute teacher at Pendleton Middle School.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Jennifer L. (Mingle) Mabrey whom he married December 21, 1968; daughters, Carrie (D.J.) Barton of Mason, Michigan and Jill (Erik Saur) Schellenberger of Pendleton; beloved grandchildren who were the light of his life, Hannah Barton, Max Barton, Stella Schellenberger and Sally Schellenberger; brother, Phil Mabrey of Pendleton; nephews, Brad Mabrey, Brett (Jill) Mabrey and Wade Myers; and cousin, Jasper (Rita) Cooter.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles H. and Mildred F. (Holmes) Mabrey; sister, Wendy Myers; and nephew, Jason Myers.

Please join the family for a time of sharing memories, stories, laughter and fellowship on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Service led by Dr. Raymond "Bud" Probasco at Pendleton First United Methodist Church, 225 W. State St., Pendleton, Indiana 46064.
