Obituary

William E. Glesing, Sr. passed away on June 6, 2017 at age 89. He was born to William and Muriel Glesing on on April 6, 1928 in Indianapolis.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of nearly 68 years, Marjorie (Wulf) Glesing. Their marriage was a beautiful example for all of his family. He is survived by their children Cathy (Oran) Sands, William Jr. (Deborah) Glesing, and Dean (Sue) Glesing; grandchildren PJ (Kerry) Tavarczky, Jonathan Sands, Anna Sands, William III (Amber Thiery) Glesing, Daniel Glesing, Lindsey (Jeremy) Jones, Jonathan Spratt, Laura (Chris) Rude, Amanda Glesing and 7 great grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers Richard (Barbara) Glesing and Don Glesing.

Bill was preceded in death by parents, William and Muriel Glesing, and sisters Rosalie Haney and Evelyn Bryant.

Bill graduated from Franklin Central HS in 1946 and IU in 1950, later obtaining his Masters in Education. He began his teaching career at Butler, Indiana, before moving to Warren Central for 35 years, where he was a teacher, coach, Athletic Director, Guidance Counselor, and helped found the Indiana State Athletic Director Association.

Bill was also a businessman and entrepreneur, founding Educational Materials and Wrestling Aids, the family business. Bill and Marge travelled extensively, including Australia, New Zealand, Alaska and multiple trips to Europe. Bill was an avid reader, especially of history. He loved attending athletic events, especially for his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and hosting weekly lunches for his family.

Visitation will be 4:00-8:00pm on Monday, June 12 at St. John's Lutheran Church, 6630 Southeastern Ave. in Indianapolis. The funeral will also be held at St. John's on Tuesday, June 13 at 11:00 with one hour of visitation prior to the service. Entombment will immediately follow at Washington Park East. Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church.
