William "Bill" L. Dawson
93 of Greenwood passed away January 25, 2017. He was born in Danbury, TX on October 18, 1923 and passed away on January 25, 2017 in Greenwood, IN. He was a Technical Writer for 36 years at Allisons, a division of General Motors in Indianapolis. Bill proudly served his country in the U. S. Marine Corp. Enlisting on December 9, 1942 and honorably discharged on December 7, 1945. He served as an airplane mechanic in the South Pacific in the defense of the Marshall Islands. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenwood where he served many years as a Sunday School Teacher and was actively involved in the Men's Fellowship Class. Bill had a passion for shaping young men's lives by serving for many years as the Scoutmaster for Troop 266 with the Boy Scouts of America. He also held various other leadership roles with the Boy Scouts. He attended many Boy Scout National Jamborees and thoroughly enjoyed the long-lasting friendships he forged over the numerous years of his involvement in scouting. Bill will be dearly missed by all his family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 70 years Betty J. (Weddle) Dawson, children, Terry (Dorothy) Dawson, Greenwood, IN, Jeffrey (Cindy) Dawson, Signal Mountain, TN, Brian (Becky) Dawson, LaFontaine, IN, Holly Dawson, Greenwood, IN, and his daughter-in-law, Cathy Dawson, Whiteland, IN. He has 11 grandchildren, Terry "JR" Dawson, Indianapolis, IN, Nicole (Eli) Ybarra, Indianapolis, IN, Christina (Chris) Harper, Greenwood, IN, Natasha (Matt) Vaught, Greenwood, IN Jefferson Dawson, Signal Mountain, TN, Logan Dawson, Signal Mountain, TN, Nicholas (Lisa) Dawson, Santa Fe, NM, Ashley Dawson, Wabash, IN, Spencer Dawson, LaFontaine, IN, Blake Dawson, Whiteland, IN and Will Dawson, Greenwood, IN. He also has 5 great grandchildren, Landon Harper, Connor Harper, Parker Dawson, Sadie Vaught and Hope Dawson. Bill is preceded in death by his son, Randall K. Dawson, his parents, William C. Dawson and Leora E. (Kearns) Dawson, his brothers John N. and David L. Dawson and sister Leora E. (Dawson) Dowell. Services will be held on Tuesday January 31, 2017, 10:00 AM at Wilson St. Pierre Funeral Service & Crematory-Greenwood Chapel with visitation there Monday January 30, 2017, 4-8 p.m. He will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Memory Gardens. In lieu of flowers you may donate to the First Baptist Church of Greenwood or the Boy Scouts of America.
